CHAMBER SPOTLIGHT MEMBER
Wilson's Dairy Queen
Wilson's Dairy Queen is one of Windsor's oldest establishments. Harold and Helen Wilson opened the Dairy Queen store in May 1951. They gave away free ice cream cones to introduce the residents of Windsor to the product. In the beginning they offered only soft-serve products, root beer, and orange soda pop. Cones and soft drinks were 5 cents, malts and shakes were 25 cents, and banana splits and 3-flavor parfaits were priced at 50 cents each. Harold Wilson passed away in March 1971 after 20 years of operating the Dairy Queen. Helen continued to operate the business herself until 1980 when her son Lynn returned to Windsor to run the store. For the past 29 years Lynn has operated the Dairy Queen with the help of his wife Melody, son Matt, daughter Emily, and numerous employees. Helen is still active in the operation of the Diary Queen and has served over four generations of loyal customers.
